Dental Crown in Tunisia — Zirconia, Ceramic or E.max
A dental crown is a fixed prosthesis that completely covers a damaged natural tooth or serves as a prosthetic cap on a dental implant. It restores the shape, chewing function, and aesthetics of the tooth in full. At Implant Dentaire Tunisie, our dental technicians manufacture crowns in high-strength monolithic zirconia, e.max ceramic, or ceramic-on-metal, depending on the clinical indication and your aesthetic requirements. Price: €250 to €450 in Tunisia versus €800 to €1,500 in France.
Monolithic zirconia
The most chosen solution in 2026. Maximum mechanical strength (1,200 MPa), excellent translucency, no metal. Indicated on posterior (molars, premolars) and anterior teeth. Lifespan: 15-25 years.
E.max ceramic (IPS)
Glass-ceramic with high translucency for optical rendering identical to natural teeth. Indicated in the anterior zone (incisors, canines) for aesthetically demanding patients. Less resistant than zirconia under high pressure.
On a dental implant
The implant crown is screwed or cemented onto the implant abutment. It is manufactured from a digital impression (intraoral scanner) for a perfect fit. Guarantee included in the implant quote.
On a root-canal-treated tooth
After root canal treatment or post-core reconstruction, the weakened tooth is covered by a crown to protect it from fracture. Preparation: 2 to 3 sessions. Provisional placed during fabrication.

How a Dental Crown is Placed
On a natural tooth: peripheral reduction (1-2 mm) under local anaesthetic to create space for the crown. On an implant: the prosthetic abutment is screwed onto the implant fixture.
3D intraoral scan (Cerec, iTero or similar) to capture the exact shape of the preparation and adjacent teeth. No traditional silicone impressions — greater patient comfort.
Digital data is sent to the dental laboratory. The crown is milled from a zirconia or e.max ceramic block by a CAD/CAM machine, then characterised and fired in a sintering furnace.
The crown is tried in the mouth to verify the cervical margin, proximal contact, and occlusion. Minor adjustments are made if needed. Shade validated with the VITA guide.
Bonding with self-etching adhesive cement (on natural tooth) or definitive abutment screw tightening (on implant). Final radiographic check. The crown is immediately functional.
What is the difference between a zirconia crown and a ceramic-on-metal crown?
A ceramic-on-metal crown (PFM) is older: a metal core is covered with ceramic. It can cause a grey line at the gum level over time. A zirconia crown is entirely ceramic: no metal, complete biocompatibility, better translucency and longer lifespan (15-25 years). For optimal aesthetics and healthy gums, zirconia is today’s reference.
How long does crown placement take?
Crown placement takes place over 2 appointments separated by 5 to 7 days of laboratory fabrication. Appointment 1: tooth preparation, digital impression, provisional crown. Appointment 2: try-in and definitive cementation. Total clinical time: approximately 2 hours. For an implant crown, the same duration applies during the second stay.
Can a zirconia crown break?
Zirconia is extremely strong (900-1,200 MPa) and fracture is very rare under normal conditions. The risk increases in cases of severe bruxism, impacts, or unchecked occlusion. In the event of a proven fracture, Implant Dentaire Tunisie replaces the crown at no additional cost during the warranty period.
Is the crown in Tunisia made from the same materials as in France?
Yes. Implant Dentaire Tunisie uses zirconia blocks from recognised European brands (Ivoclar, Kuraray, GC Initial) and precision sintering furnaces. The technical specifications (grade, colour, translucency) are identical to those used in French dental laboratories. The quality of the final result depends more on the technician’s precision and the digital impression than on the material brand.
