What is a zygomatic implant?

Fixed upper arch
without bone graft

A zygomatic implant is a long dental implant (30–55 mm) anchored in the cheekbone (zygoma) instead of the upper jaw. It's indicated for patients with severe bone atrophy of the upper maxilla, where traditional implants cannot be placed without heavy bone grafting.

At our dental clinic in Tunis, zygomatic implants are placed by certified maxillofacial surgeons using Nobel Biocare or Neodent protocols. Fixed prosthesis placed in 48–72h (All-on-4 zygoma concept). From €7,500 per arch (vs €22,000–35,000 in Europe).

Protocols

The 3 zygomatic protocols

01
Quad Zygoma
4 zygomatic implants

Severe bilateral maxillary atrophy. 4 zygomatic implants (2 per side) anchored in the cheekbones. Fixed prosthesis in 48-72h. Ideal when no maxillary bone is usable.

Full fixed arch.

€12,500/ arch €35,000 – 50,000 in Europe
02
Zygoma + All-on-4
2 zygoma + 2 axial

Posterior atrophy only. 2 posterior zygomatic implants + 2 anterior axial implants. Preferred combined solution.

Full fixed arch.

€9,500/ arch €28,000 – 40,000 in Europe
03
Single zygomatic
1 zygomatic implant

Localised bone loss after surgery or trauma. Single zygomatic implant to replace 1 to 3 teeth in a deficient area.

Per unit.

€3,500/ implant €8,000 – 12,000 in Europe
Indications

When to place a zygomatic implant?

Severe bone atrophy

When maxillary bone height is less than 4 mm and no longer allows conventional implant placement, even after bone grafting.

Bone graft failure

Graft resorption, post-graft infection, graft refusal by the patient. Zygomatic implants avoid these complications by bypassing the maxillary area.

Alternative to sinus lift

Avoids a sinus lift and shortens overall treatment from 6–9 months to 3 days.

Total rehabilitation

Essential for a complete maxillary rehabilitation in severe atrophy, where classic All-on-4 is not feasible.

Process

Treatment in 6 days

1

Assessment + 3D scan

Consultation, CBCT scan to visualise density and volume of cheek and maxillary bones. Digital surgical planning.

2

Placement under sedation

Surgery under local anaesthesia + conscious or general sedation (2–4h). Placement of 4 zygomatic implants + possibly anterior axial implants.

3

Temporary prosthesis

A resin fixed temporary bridge is placed in 48 to 72h. Immediate loading. Patient leaves the clinic with fixed teeth.

4

Final prosthesis

At 3–6 months, placement of the final prosthesis in monolithic zirconia or hybrid (metal + resin) after complete osseointegration.

In summary: zygomatic implants in Tunisia are the reference solution for patients with severe maxillary atrophy, replacing heavy bone grafts. From €7,500 for 2 zygomatic implants combined with All-on-4, 4 to 5 times cheaper than in Europe, with immediate loading in 48–72h. Send your 3D scan for a free quote within 24h.

Zygomatic implant FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What makes a zygomatic implant different from a classic implant?

A zygomatic implant is longer (30-55 mm vs 8-13 mm) and anchors in the cheekbone (zygoma) rather than the upper jaw. It's reserved for severe maxillary bone atrophy where a classic implant is impossible.

How much does a zygomatic implant cost in Tunisia?

A single zygomatic implant costs from €3,500. Full arch combined All-on-4 + 2 zygoma: from €9,500. Quad Zygoma (4 zygomatics): from €12,500. 4 to 5 times cheaper than in Europe.

Is zygomatic implant placement painful?

No. Surgery under local anaesthesia + conscious sedation (or general if requested). Painless. Post-op similar to classic maxillary surgery: painkillers, 3-5 days swelling.

Can zygomatic implants avoid bone grafting?

Yes. This is the primary indication. Zygomatic implants avoid heavy bone grafts (bilateral sinus lift, iliac crest graft) and shorten treatment from 6-9 months to 3 days.

What is the success rate of zygomatic implants?

10-year success rate is 96-98% according to international studies. Comparable to classic implants, provided they are placed by an experienced surgeon (> 50 cases).

How long is the stay in Tunisia for zygomatic treatment?

6 days: assessment + scan D1, surgery D2, rest D3, temporary fixed prosthesis D4, check D5, return D6. 4* hotel + transfer included in our packages.

Who can place zygomatic implants in Tunisia?

Only maxillofacial surgeons or experienced implantologists trained in this complex technique. At our dental clinic Tunis, our team is trained in the Nobel Biocare Zygomatic protocol (> 200 cases performed).

Ideal candidates: adults with severe maxillary atrophy (< 4 mm bone height), long-term denture wearers, or after bone graft failure. Contraindications: active smoking, uncontrolled diabetes, active sinus infection. See also: full mouth →
